MOGADISHU – Somali Security forces were deployed around the residence of former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire on Saturday, amid growing tensions ahead of an opposition-organised protest planned for Friday in Mogadishu.

Sources said the deployment at Khaire's house near Mogadishu airport was aimed at preventing mobilisation efforts linked to the demonstration, which opposition figures say is intended to protest forced evictions and demolitions in the capital.

The political atmosphere in Mogadishu has become increasingly tense, with the opposition and the federal government accusing each other of escalating the confrontation ahead of the planned rallies.

Opposition leaders have vowed to proceed with the demonstrations despite heavy security measures, while authorities have yet to issue a detailed public response regarding the latest deployments.
