ADALE, Somalia Oct 1, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Somali government forces alongside African Union peacekeepers have seized strategic town of Adale of southeastern Somalia from Al Shabaab fighters on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

As allied troops intensified their drive against Islamist insurgents in south-central regions, the militants reportedly fled in advance of the anticipated onslaught.

Adale, 222km northeast of Mogadishu had since been one of two Al Shabaab springboards in Middle Shabelle region.

Cheering soldiers in battle tanks poured into the liberated town from nearby Haji Ali vicinity, residents said.

Middle Shabelle regional district of Adan Yabal still remains in the hands of Al Shabaab fighters.

Among militants-most friendly-bastions are Barawe coastal town and Middle Jubba regional capital of Bu’alle into which they stash supplies.
