Somalia: Two killed in landmine blast in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- At least two people are reported killed, and several others wounded in a landmine explosion that hit the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.
A resident, speaking on a condition of anonymity, told GO via the phone the bomb went off at a security checkpoint in Ex-control Bal'ad area, targeting Somali Police forces stationed in the area.
The remote-controlled land mine explosion at the Police checkpoint in Mogadishu was followed by heavy gunfire that could be heard in other part of the capital, according to the witness.
Three Somali government soldiers are reportedly among seven people injured in the bomb attack, and they were immediately taken to a nearby Hospital for medical treatment.
No group has claimed responsibility of the attack, but Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab group is suspected to be behind the bomb attack as the group has previously carried out similar attacks in Mogadishu and other regions in the country.
The group vowed to disrupt the ongoing Somali election, as the newly sworn-in lawmakers are set to pick the new Somali President scheduled in January 2017.
