Somalia’s Galmudug State President quits over health reasons

ADADO, Somalia- The President of Somalia's semi-autonomous state of Galmudug, Abdikarim Hussein Guled has on Saturday announced his resignation, citing health reasons prompted his sudden decision, Garowe Online reports.
Guled a close ally to former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud was embroiled in political dispute with the regional Parliament who voted to unseat him from office back in January 2017.
"Today, February 26, I hereby declare that I decided to leave office, because my current health condition will not allow me to perform my duties as President of Galmudug effectively," said Guled in a statement released to the media.
President Guled who underwent a heart treatment in India last year said in the statement on Sunday that his doctors advised him to quite his post to ensure full recovery from illness.
In the past few months, he had been struggling with criticism and opposition from Galmudug MPs who impeached him last month and accused Guled of poor leadership and incompetence to run the office.
Guled has been in power since his election in Adado town in central Somalia in July 4, 2015.
