Trump Weighs Strikes on Iran, Vance Rejects Long Middle East War

WASHINGTON — U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that while military strikes on specific targets in Iran—primarily nuclear facilities and long-range missile sites—remain under consideration by President Donald J. Trump, he and other officials prefer a diplomatic solution.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Vance emphasized that even if strikes occur, there is “no chance” the United States would become involved in a prolonged Middle East war.

“The idea that we’re going to be in a Middle Eastern war for years with no end in sight—there is no chance that will happen,” Vance said, speaking after returning from an event in Wisconsin.

He also described himself as a “skeptic of foreign military interventions,” a view he said also applies to President Trump.

Vance’s remarks come amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, even as diplomatic efforts continue to address ongoing disputes.
