Somalia: A delegate involved in the electoral process shot dead in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Gunmen believed to be linked to al-Shabaab group were reported have killed a woman in Mogadishu on Thursday, the latest in series of killings in the Somali capital, Garowe Online reports.

Eyewitnesses confirmed to GO that two men armed with pistols shot dead Hajira Abdi, one of the Southwest electoral delegates, as she left her house near former U.S. Embassy in Wadajir district.

The assailants managed to escape the scene immediately before the arrival of the Police authority, who carried out an investigation into the incident. No arrest was made for the murder of the woman.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the murder of Abdi, but the militant group Al-Shabaab has vowed previously to kill the electoral delegates who elected the Federal lawmakers of the current Somali Federal Parliament.

Mogadishu has witnessed an increase of attacks and organized killings in the past few months, targeting civil servants, security personnel and the elders participated the recent parliamentary election process.
