Somalia: Hirshabelle President inaugurated in Jowhar town

JOWHAR, Somalia- The President of the newly formed Hirshabelle state, Ali Abdulahi Osoble, was inaugurated in Saturday, in Jowhar town, the headquarters of Hirshabelle state, Garowe Online reports.

The event attended by the Somali caretaker President Hasan Sheikh Mohamoud, lawmakers and cabinet Ministers, also saw the participation of representatives of UN, EU Arab League, IGAD and the ambassadors of Qatar, Turkey and China in the ceremony. Leaders of Southwest State Shariff Hassan and Abdikarim Hussein Gulled of Galmudug State were also present in the ceremony.

In his acceptance speech, Osoble expressed gratitude for the great opportunity and pledged an inclusive administration and called for collective support in the state building process.

On the other hand, Somali’s caretaker President and diplomats have also congratulated the new Hirshabelle leadership and called for reconciliation to ensure that the interest of communities are protected.

On his side, Somali presidential candidate and Upper House senator, Abdirahman Mohamed Farole, has extended his congratulations to the new President Osoble, over the phone.

Farole reminded Osoble of the responsibility bestowed upon him as leader, and emphasized on the need for reconciliation to unit people and communities in the regions. He noted that Somalia at this stage needs to overcome adversity and called all regional administrations to mutually resolve differences.  

Presidential hopeful Farole spoke about the recent clashes in Galkayo city and urged authorities of Puntland and Galmudug to work together to end conflicts in the region to avoid further bloodshed.

The new President of Hirshabelle state was inaugurated amid opposition from clan leaders of Hiiran region of the newly formed state, citing interference over the process by Somali government.
