Puntland Ministry Criticizes Somali Government Over Lasaanood Crisis

Garowe, Somalia - The Puntland Ministry of Internal Affairs has criticized the Somali federal government for failing to mediate the ongoing Lasaanood crisis. For over two months, a genocidal conflict has been unfolding in the city as Somaliland forces push for forced secession. This conflict has displaced over 200,000 people, numerous deaths, personal injuries, and extensive property damage.

The Puntland Ministry of Internal Affairs has rejected the recent appointment of Abdikarin Hussein Guled as "Somaliland's envoy for dialogue," claiming it to be a diversion from the ongoing crisis. The Ministry demands an apology for the "aggressive" accusations directed at them and urges the federal government to address the derogatory statements made by some top government officials.

The Ministry highlights the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Laseanood, calling for the invading forces to be forced out of the city. They also express concern that the Federal Government cannot act as judge and mediator in the Lasanood conflict, given their view that the Sool and Sanaag regions should not be separated from Somaliland. This view is demonstrated by the map nomination, which contradicts the long-standing suffering of the Sool people and their decision to declare that they are not part of Somaliland.

The Puntland Ministry of Internal Affairs also emphasizes that the Sool and Sanaag regions have built ties with Puntland and are fully united in its constitution. They urge the Federal Government not to be biased, calling for the withdrawal of Somaliland forces from the Sool region to find peace and allow the people of SSC to make their own decisions freely.

The Ministry calls on the Somali people, especially those in Puntland and the international community, to redouble their aid and humanitarian efforts to support the victims of the conflict in Lasaanood and the surrounding areas of Sool.
