Somalia: Deaths reported in violent Bossaso protests

BOSSASO, Somalia-Street protests have turned violent after security forces tried to break up anti-government match on Monday,Garowe Online reports.

Puntland soldiers are reported to have fired into air, with volleys of gunfire being heard across the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso.

The protesters were taking to streets in support of detained community leader identified as Abdiasis Farah Haji Saed . Security forces on Sunday arrested Saed on suspicion of inciting demonstrations against Puntland government.

At least two people died and five people were wounded in two separate incidents.

Security forces have launched the surprise raid on Galan’s residence following protests in the state’s most populous city. 

Former Bari Governor fled home prior to the attack according to sources.

Government links Galan to today’s violent march which has come amid domestic grudges posed to President himself by Bari clan elders.

Ex-Bari governor has criticized President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali as pressure continues to mount.
