Somalia: New Puntland Police Chief seeks reform


GAROWE, Somalia, August 29, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The newly appointed Puntland Police Commander-in-Chief said, he is pushing ahead with reform amid complaints over delayed pays, Garowe Online reports.

In an interview with Puntland-based independent station, Radio Garowe, Abdirizak Mohamud Yusuf (Af Gadud) told that fresh plans are underway to improve the discipline and capability of police officers.

“During my tenure, there will be trainings as well as shuffle and we wouldn’t stay patient on quiescent in police,” said Af Gadud.

On the salaries of police officers, he indicated that Puntland president made pledges amidst growing frustration over the delayed pays of civil servants and security forces.

He also asked the public to continue tolerating the mishaps by key law enforcement body till the reform programme is completed.

Af Gadud was named Puntland Police Chief by President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali a few weeks ago.

Last week, he alongside government ministers opened training for new recruits at Armo Police Academy.
