Somalia: Puntland leaders perform Eid Al Adha prayers alongside worshippers

GAROWE, Puntland – The President of Somalia’s northeastern Puntland state, Said Abdullahi Deni performed Eid Al Adha prayer, alongside top government officials and worshippers in Garowe city on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Hundreds of people from across the city gathered at Mire Aware football stadium on Sunday morning for the Eid Al Adha prayer with the heads of Puntland Government under tight security in the area and other parts in the Federal State.

Deni was accompanied by Vice President Ahmed Karash, several cabinet ministers, former state president, and current Somali Senator Abdirahman Farole as well as tribesmen and members of the community in the Eid prayer.

After the prayer, the President congratulated Muslims across the world, Somali citizens and Puntland people on the event of Eid Al Adha and prayed to Almighty Allah to give the country lasting peace and stability.

For his part, Puntland Vice President Ahmed sent his heartfelt congratulations to Somalis in general on the happy occasion Eid Al-Adha, which marks the end of the annual Islamic Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in KSA.

During his address, Karash urged the people of Puntland to unite against the enemy and preserve peace in the country and support the government’s efforts to maintain security and war on the extremist groups.

The holiday is celebrated in all regions in Puntland with prayers, small gifts for children and distribution of meat to the poor families among the population who are in dire need of assistance in the spirit of Eid festival.

Eid al-Adha is one of Muslims’ two main religious festivals that bring happiness to Muslims around the globe.
