​Somalia: Puntland Parliament approves creation of new districts

GAROWE, Puntland- The state Parliament of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland, has voted to approve the creation of 4 new districts in various parts of the state, Garowe Online reports.

The new districts are Bursalah, Hunbays, Shahda and Dhudub located in Mudug, Karkar and Bari regions.

Today’s voting session was attended by 44 state MPs, as majority of the Parliament voted in favor of the motion with 39 MPs, whereas 4 abstained and 1 rejected the motion.

The 39th session of Puntland Parliament was recently commenced, and passed a motion of no confidence against Puntland cabinet, following disagreement with Puntland President.

Puntland President Abdiwali Mohamed Ali “Gaas” is expected to appoint new cabinet and bring it before the Parliament for endorsement.

The rift between the Parliament and Puntland President was reported to be resolved, as close sources revealed that Parliament conditions were all met by the President.
