Somalia: Puntland President names third Governor, Commander for Nugal in Year-and-a-Half

GAROWE, Somalia, September 17, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The President of Somalia’s Puntland Government Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has named the third governor and regional police commander for northeastern Nugal region in a year and a half, Garowe Online reports.

Omar Abdullahi Farole Wednesday replaced outgoing governor Abdullahi Isse Aw Abdi who was appointed to the post on February 1, 2015.

Qasim Mohamed Abdi, former municipal official has also been nominated as Deputy Governor.

Aw Abdi took from predecessor Abdiqani Hashi Ali (Bumbo). President Ali picked Bumbo on April 3, 2014 on the heels of tightly contested regional elections.

On Thursday, Puntland leader re-appointed Abdirahman Abshir Farah (Qaan-Qaan) as Nugal regional police commander.

The new security commander has succeeded Abdullahi Ahmed Samatar (Layli).
