Somalia: Swiss Ambassador visits Puntland

GAROWE, Somalia Dec 23, 2014 (Garowe Online)- Swiss envoy to Somalia Ambassador Dominik Langen Bakher for the first time paid visit to the northeastern state of Puntland, discussing the country’s loose federalization process with President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Ali at Puntland State House on Tuesday, Bakher thanked the state for the warm welcome it accorded to him over the course of his stay and stressed the need for stable relations between federal states and the central government.

Switzerland envoy told that it will be important if Somalia federalism is debated in international forums, spotlighting that this step will further contribute to political stability and matters to the country.

On his side, Puntland President unveiled that the state is ready to share its 16-year-old experience in federalism with the Federal Government of Somalia.

The visit by Swiss Ambassador to Puntland marks the first since being appointed to the post. Switzerland would assist the federal state in good governance and democratization.
