MAHADAY, Somalia, October 17, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Shabelle River burst its banks into Middle Shabelle region town of Mahaday of southern Somalia, slowing traffic to a halt on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Heavy downpour that continued over the last 24 hours caused flash floods that drenched vast areas according to Mahaday District Commissioner Eidle Warsame Farah.

The deluge brought 70 trucks loaded with a variety of commodities to standstill on the main road leading from Mogadishu to central Somalia.

No major casualties have been reported in Mahaday.

Aid Agencies are predicting that floods could push more than 900,000 people on the floodplains of Jubba and Shabelle Rivers into humanitarian crisis.
