Ex-Jubaland Minister Says Somali Government Defeated in Lower Juba, Calls for New Administration in Gedo

BELED-HAWA, Somalia – Former Jubaland Security Minister Cabdirashiid Janan, currently in the Gedo region’s Beled-Hawo district, has declared that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has effectively lost control over the Lower Juba region, where Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe remains in power with a strong military presence.

Speaking to local supporters, Janan, who is now serving as Somali intelligence chief in Gedo region, called for the establishment of a new Jubaland administration based in Garbaharey city, signaling renewed tensions between factions in southern Somalia.

“The people of Gedo must prepare for a new Jubaland administration. Lower Juba is under Ahmed Madobe, who holds military power and has rejected the Federal Government,” Janan said.

His comments reflect the ongoing political rivalry between Jubaland authorities and the Somali Federal Government, especially over control of the Gedo region. The FGS has long disputed Ahmed Madobe’s legitimacy and influence, particularly in border regions such as Kismayo, Afmadow, and Beled-Hawo.

It remains unclear whether Janan’s remarks represent an organized political initiative or a new bid to shift power dynamics in the region. No immediate response was issued by the Federal Government or Jubaland officials.
