Gunmen kill 5 members of the same family in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Residents in Mogadishu, the Somali capital are in shock after the fatal shooting that left at least five members of the same family on Wednesday evening, Garowe Online reports.

Local Police said unknown 4 assailants armed with AK-47 rifles have attacked a house in Kawo Godey village in the capital's Wadajir district and subsequently shot indiscriminately at the people one-by-one.

The killers were reported to have sped off in his car before the arrival of Somali security forces. It's yet unclear the motive behind the murder of the civilians and who carried out.

A seven-year-old boy from a neighbouring house was among the dead, said police.

Five others were wounded in the gruesome attack, some of them sustained life-threatening injuries, according to Mogadishu hospital sources.

"Five of the family members died at the scene and the wounded have been taken to hospital," Ahmed Ali, a close relative of the massacred family, told local media.

Among those reported killed in the attack were the uncle and aunt of Deputy Minister of Fisheries of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, who is also a member of parliament.

The lawmaker, however, is yet to comment on the horrific incident.

Since the election of Farmajo as the 9th president of Somalia on 8th February 2017, the security situation in the Horn of Africa country has been worsening.

Suicide attacks and assassinations are increasing in the capital Mogadishu, and the al-Qaeda linked group al-Shabab has vowed to target government buildings, hotels and UN and diplomatic missions.
