Hormuud Salaam Foundation supports life-saving heart surgeries for 14 Somali children
A vital medical initiative at Guuleed Specialist Hospital in Mogadishu has successfully provided life-saving surgeries for 15 children suffering from congenital heart defects. The program, which took place from August 25 to August 27, was carried out in collaboration with Hop for Little Hearts Foundation, Guuleed Specialist Hospital, and the Mogadishu Heart Center, with financial backing from Hormuud Salaam Foundation (HSF).
The surgeries, performed by a team of local and international medical experts, have brought new hope to Somali families. Dr. Guled, Director of Guled Hospital, described the initiative as a life-changing milestone for the nation.
“When you see a sick child regain life, it’s a gift to the nation. We are grateful to Hormuud Salaam Foundation for their remarkable contribution,” he said.
Dr. Mohamed Nairobi also highlighted the significance of the program, emphasizing the Foundation’s crucial role in its success. “Helping 15 children means not only saving lives but also easing the suffering of their families,” he noted.
Abdullahi Nur Osman, Chairman of the Hormuud Salaam Foundation, reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering commitment to child health. “It is our duty to stand by vulnerable children, and we are determined to continue supporting Somali communities,” he said.
Somalia’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ali, commended the doctors and the Foundation for their humanitarian efforts, stressing the need for further investment in healthcare access for children.
During the program’s closing ceremony, Hormuud Salaam Foundation awarded certificates of honor to all medical professionals and Guuleed Hospital staff who contributed to the surgeries.
This initiative underscores Hormuud Salaam Foundation’s long-standing dedication to improving healthcare in Somalia. The organization has a history of funding major heart surgeries both locally and abroad, supporting vulnerable communities affected by emergencies, and empowering Somali youth through job creation programs.
The success of this program marks yet another milestone in HSF’s mission to transform lives and provide critical health services to Somali families in need.
