MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with Jubaland forces, has made significant territorial gains by seizing control of Quds and Gole-Shinbi from Al-Shabaab militants in Lower Jubba, a region long used as a stronghold by the insurgents, military officials reported.

In the early hours of the operation, coordinated strikes led to the destruction of several Al-Shabaab bases, killing and wounding several fighters. The action is part of a concerted effort to weaken Al-Shabaab's grip on the region, known for its strategic importance to the group's operations.

A military spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "The operation was designed with precision to limit civilian harm and effectively disrupt Al-Shabaab's operational structure." The spokesperson added that the territorial gains reflect a commitment to rooting out terrorism from Somalia.

The operation comes on the heels of several recent military initiatives aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab's network. The insurgents have utilized Lower Jubba for recruitment and training, posing significant threats to both government forces and civilian populations.

Despite the success, the military remains vigilant, expecting possible counterattacks from Al-Shabaab, which has historically employed guerrilla warfare tactics against government-led offensives. Security forces are preparing to fortify their positions to counter any attempts by Al-Shabaab to reclaim lost ground.

The victory in Lower Jubba highlights the ongoing struggle against extremism in Somalia, where international support plays a crucial role in maintaining military progress and promoting long-term stability.
