Somali defense minister visits Ethiopian AUSSOM troops in Baidoa city

BAIDOA, Somalia - Ahmed Moallin Fiqi, Somalia’s defense minister, visited the Sector 3 headquarters of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia in Baidoa on Monday, where Ethiopian troops serving under the mission are deployed, officials said.

During the visit, Fiqi held talks with Sector 3 commander Teklu Hurisa Janka and received a briefing on ongoing operations, progress in security efforts, and coordination between the Somali National Army and Ethiopian forces operating in South West state.

The minister thanked the Ethiopian contingent for supporting Somali forces and contributing to efforts aimed at improving security and stability, stressing the importance of strengthening joint operations against extremist groups. 

The visit is part of broader efforts by Somalia’s defense ministry to enhance cooperation with international partners, particularly AUSSOM, and accelerate gains in the fight against militancy through coordinated operations.
