MOGADISHU, Somalia - The federal government of Somalia has announced the release of over 348 nationals who have been marooned in Ukraine and her borders partly due to a lack of proper documentation, the foreign affairs ministry announced.

Hundreds of Somalis have struggled to leave Ukraine after war broke out between Kyiv and Moscow, which has left thousands of people dead and millions displaced. The war has been condemned widely by the international community.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had managed to secure the release of the nationals but did not explain whether they continued to remain in the troubled nation or were evacuated to neighboring countries.

"The federal government of Somalia is pleased to announce the release of 348 displaced Somalis who have been stranded in Ukraine and along its borders due to lack of proper documentation," read the statement.

"In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation is pleased to announce that it has managed to place 65 students in various Higher Learning institutions in Hungary after registering their interests, " the ministry added.

Further, the minister provided a link for students still studying in Ukraine but would wish to be registered in neighboring countries to continue with their studies. The war in Ukraine has brought about economic disruptions across the world.

So far, no truce has been announced but various stakeholders including the United States and European Union are backing Ukraine. The conflict has triggered a massive economic downturn in the last two months.
