Somali President Hassan Sheikh Departs for Official Visit to Algeria

ALGIERS, Algeria — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and a delegation he leads departed Friday for Algiers, the capital of Algeria, on an official visit.

The trip follows an official invitation from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Somali officials said the visit is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Somalia and Algeria, particularly in the areas of security, economy, energy, and diplomatic cooperation.

Accompanying President Mohamud are members of Somalia’s Cabinet, including the ministers of defense, minerals and petroleum, livestock development, and foreign affairs, Abdisaalan Ali Dhaay.

During their stay in Algiers, the Somali delegation is expected to hold meetings with President Tebboune and other senior Algerian officials to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries as well as regional and international partnerships.
