Somalia and Djibouti Deepen Ties with New Political Cooperation Agreement

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia and Djibouti have taken a significant step toward strengthening their diplomatic relationship by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at institutionalizing regular political dialogue between the two neighboring countries.

The agreement was formalized on Saturday in Mogadishu during a meeting between Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali and Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Ambassador Abdulqadir Hussein Omar.

According to officials, the MoU sets the stage for enhanced collaboration on regional security, political coordination, and mutual development priorities. It also emphasizes the importance of addressing shared challenges on both regional and international platforms.

Both ministers highlighted the critical role of continuous communication and cooperation in promoting stability and prosperity in the Horn of Africa region.

Although the exact provisions of the MoU have not been publicly detailed, the agreement signals a mutual commitment to deepen ties and work together on issues ranging from peacebuilding to economic growth.
