MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Federal Government of Somalia welcomes the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait on the fruitful reconciliation efforts between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Somalia commends the mediation efforts made by the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah, in resolving the 3-year-long GCC dispute.

The Federal Government said it is pleased with the efforts of the Emir of Kuwait, Prince Nawaf Ahmed Aljabir, in leading and initiating talks to complete the restoration of relations between the two countries and brotherly peoples.

Finally, the Federal Government of Somalia pledged commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations based on impartiality, cooperation, and safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of all stakeholders.

The statement comes hours after Saudi Arabia has opened its land border with Qatar, and is set to reopen its airspace and sea border on the eve of the GCC summit Tuesday.

When the Gulf row started in June 2017, Somalia took a neutral position on the dispute between the Arab countries, but months later Mogadishu showed actions siding with Qatar that irked Saudi Ana UAE.

Since then, Doha developed closer ties with Mogadishu and provided funding for the implementation of development projects in Somalia including roads and ports.
