MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Somali government on Sunday lambasted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for suggesting that Saudi Arabia could serve as a location for a Palestinian state, denouncing the idea as a "flagrant breach of international law."

In an official statement, Somalia's Foreign Ministry accused Netanyahu's proposal of undermining the UN Charter and offending Saudi Arabia's sovereignty.

"Somalia stands in complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia, pledging allegiance to the principles of sovereignty, peace, and international law," the statement declared.

The ministry further underscored Somalia's staunch support for Palestinian rights, calling for an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with global legal norms. It decried any plan to uproot Palestinians from their ancestral lands, labeling such moves as egregious violations of humanitarian law.

"Somalia categorically opposes any initiative aimed at relocating the Palestinian population, which would sabotage peace efforts in the region," the statement emphasized.

This denouncement mirrors Saudi Arabia's reaction, where its Foreign Ministry has accused Netanyahu of attempting to "shift focus" from what they describe as Israel's "persistent violations" in Gaza, including claims of ethnic cleansing.

"The kingdom upholds the Palestinian right to their homeland, not as foreigners or settlers to be displaced by the Israeli administration," stated Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry.

Netanyahu's remarks have also sparked a backlash from a range of Arab states, including Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, UAE, Kuwait, Iraq, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
