MOGADISHU, Somalia Feb 9, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Unidentified gunmen in a car shot and killed Federal Member of Parliament in drive-by shooting on his way to parliament house on Monday according to witnesses, Garowe Online reports.

The assailants who were trailing the MP opened fire at his car and immediately escaped from the scene of the crime.

Late Abdulahi Qayad Barre has driven past El Gabta junction in Mogadishu’s Hamar Weyne district when gunmen stepped in for the first MP assassination in the year 2015.

Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke and his cabinet members are in the parliament hall for confidence vote in the new government.

Nobody claimed credit for the attack but as has been the case Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group targets government officials and foreigners in planned assassinations and military-style ambushes, largely in Mogadishu.
