MOGADISHU, Somalia Dec 11, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Somali National Intelligence officers allegedly arrested the Director-General of Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development Mohamud Omar Nur for corruption and abuse of power on Wednesday night, Garowe Online reports.

Caretaker Minister for Women Khadija Mohamed Dirie told reporters in Mogadishu that Nur was detained without judicial writ: “I have contacted Deputy Boss of National Intelligence, he confirmed to me that he [Nur] was arrested after Attorney and auditor Generals wrote to National Intelligence and Security Agency office”.

Dirie called the arrest illegal, adding that she is tasked with day-to-day activities of the ministry.

Following the ouster of outgoing Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed, Attorney and Auditor Generals issued a letter, barring ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers from travel.

A month-long political impasse led to bureaucratic paralysis in Mogadishu where Somalia’s central government is largely based.
