Somalia Police Force marks 72nd anniversary

MOGADISHU, Somalia, December 20, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Federal Government of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has led a colorful event commemorating the founding day of Somali Police Force (SPF) at General Kaahiye police academy in Mogadishu on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Flanked by the country’s top Police commissioner Gen. Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud, Mohamud congratulated Somali police officers everywhere on the 72nd anniversary.

“Somali Police Force is a mother for multifaceted security bodies Somalia has. They are an emblem for the recovery of Somalia, given they succeeded in retrieving the historic archives of national police force,” said Mohamud.

Somali Police Force was established in 1943.

“Governance is a force with law reinforcing institutions,” Somali leader stressed, a year after he regarded discipline as a pre-requisite for healthy police officer in war-torn Somalia.

He called for further measures in reducing illiteracy rate among police force.

Somali police officers are educated on the writing and reading of their native Somali language.

Racked by protracted conflict for over two decades, Somalia is preparing to hold a stepping stone electionsby 2016 when mandate of current government ends.
