Canadian Photojournalist Resigns From Reuters in Protest Over Gaza Coverage

TORONTO — Canadian photojournalist Valerie Zink has announced her resignation from Reuters, citing what she describes as the news agency’s complicity in the killing of journalists in Gaza.

In a public statement, Zink said she is not only ending her work with the international news organization but also destroying her press credentials in protest.

“I can’t in good conscience continue to work for Reuters given their betrayal of journalists in Gaza and culpability in the assassination of our colleagues,” she said.

Zink specifically referenced the killing of 245 journalists in Gaza since the start of the conflict, accusing Reuters of justifying and enabling the violence through its editorial choices and lack of accountability.

Her resignation adds to growing criticism from within the media industry over the treatment of journalists in conflict zones and the responsibilities of major news organizations in upholding press freedom and safety.

Reuters has not publicly responded to Zink’s statement.
