Ilhan Omar is unqualified to advise me, says Donald Trump
WASHINGTON - Furious American President Donald Trump has lashed out at vocal Minnesota 5th District Representative Ilhan Omar, renewing their tensions over nine months after the president made a dramatic comeback to White House last year.
During the first administration of Donald Trump, the duo were embroiled in bitter contests, with Trump often attacking the Muslim nation in reference to Omar's native home, which has struggled with instability for over three decades.
And on his social media accounts, Trump renewed attacks against Ilhan Omar, while referring to Somalia. The president maintains that the Minnesota legislator lacks the moral authority to lecture his administration.
"Ilan Omar's country, Somalia, is plagued by a lack of central government control, persistent poverty, hunger, resurgent terrorism, piracy, decades of civil war, corruption, and pervasive violence. 70% of the population lives in extreme poverty and widespread food insecurity," he said.
Trump says Somalia remains largely dysfunctional and insists that Omar should directly contribute to its stability before lecturing his administration. He highlighted several struggles the Horn of Africa nation is facing, while noting its challenges.
"Somalia is consistently ranked one of the world's most corrupt countries, including bribery, embezzlement, and dysfunctional government. All of this, and Omar tells us how to run a country? Wasn't she the one who married her brother to get citizenship? What scum do we have in our country telling us what to do and how to do it?"
Ms. Omar has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, questioning his economic and foreign policy records, which he maintains are questionable and deplorable. The Democrat politician says Trump has lost ground.
"Four Republicans didn’t join Democrats to protect me; they joined to defend the First Amendment and sanity. No one should be going after them. This country stands for freedom, and right now, what people are doing is totally unacceptable," she said in a recent post.
America is a major financial and security contributor to Somalia and trains the elite Danab Special Forces, who are critical in the fight against Al-Shabaab. Lately, Trump has supported anti-terrorism campaigns in the country with limited funding.
