Guterres appoints Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister as head Of UN Office in Nairobi

UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced yesterday the appointment of Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu as Director General of the Office of the United Nations in Nairobi (UNON).

The appointment of Dr. Workneh is ascribed to Ethiopia’s significant roles in the promotion of regional peace and security as well as the country’s efforts to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Workneh succeeds Hanna S. Tetteh of Ghana who was appointed as Special Representative to the African Union (AU) and Head of the United Nations Office to AU.

Office of the Prime Minister congratulated on his appointment as Director General UNON.

Workneh has a long track record of serving the government in various capacities for over 20 years and has played a key role in reforms undertaken within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, the Office said on Twitter.
