Ruto urges EAC ministers to end Non-Tariff Barriers to bolster trade in the region

NAIROBI, Kenya - Kenyan President William Ruto on Tuesday called upon East African Community leaders to work towards ending the Non-Tariff Barriers hampering the trade within the EAC region.

“We have a common destiny as East Africa. We must, therefore, work together towards eliminating impediments to trade and investment within the region for the prosperity of the people,” President Ruto said when he hosted the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers at State House.

The head of state was speaking to the East Africa Community (EAC) council of ministers, during a meeting he hosted at State House-Nairobi.

EAC ministers were led by Rwanda’s Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also part of the group led by its Chairman Ambassador Ezechiel Nibigira.

Also in attendance were Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the EAC and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano.

At the time of going to press details of the meeting had not been shared but reliable sources within the president’s circle indicate that most of the deliberations were centered around improving intra-EAC trade.
