Somalia: UN Agencies urged to clarify alleged Puntland insecurity

GAROWE, Somalia, October 5, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Puntland Vice President Abdihakin Abdullahi Haji Omar has asked United Nations Agencies to respond to widely speculated fears of insecurity in the northeastern state during a meeting aimed at reviewing progresses and challenges on Monday, Garowe Online reports.
Omar was attending a gathering organized to evaluate UN Joint Programme on Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery (JPLG).
He said the security fears saw United Nations Agencies to fail meeting 2016 targets and unprecedented decline in development activities, referring to decentralized service delivery.
“Donors are absent; they need to be visited in Nairobi. If the situation is, we give something under tight watch, we will make review into [UN programmes],” said Puntland Vice President.
On April 20, suicide bomber blew himself up, killing foreign staffers working for UNICEF in front of main compound in the capital, Garowe.
