MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s Success Stories event (BGS) forum, hosted by Hormuud, Somalia's premier telecommunications firm, is gearing up for its annual event on 16 October 2024 at the Sahal venue in Mogadishu.

The upcoming event marks the third Somalia’s Success Stories event (BGS). Last year, the BGS focused on Somalia's economic production landscape, providing participants with a thorough understanding of the sector's dynamics. The forum highlighted both the potential growth avenues and the considerable hurdles within Somalia's economy.

This year's BGS forum, themed "Fintech in Somalia: Challenges, Opportunities & Future Prospects," will delve into how financial technology can catalyze economic development in one of Africa's most challenging economic landscapes.

As a pivotal platform for private sector discourse in Somalia, the forum, a cornerstone for private sector dialogue in Somalia, will assemble a spectrum of participants including business magnates, government officials, academic experts, and innovative entrepreneurs. The discussions are poised to scrutinize the fintech sector's current status, the adequacy of regulatory frameworks, and the broader economic impacts of technological advancements in finance.

The much-anticipated event will feature keynote speeches from fintech pioneers, interactive panel discussions, academic presentations, and an exhibition space where local fintech startups can showcase their innovations. Additionally, an awards ceremony will recognize significant achievements within Somalia's fintech sector.

"Fintech transcends mere technology; it's pivotal for economic expansion and financial inclusivity in Somalia," stated BGS event director, Hassan Dahir. "This forum is essential for harmonizing our regulatory landscape with fintech's rapid evolution, ensuring both security and innovation."

The event will also unveil findings from three key research projects, providing an in-depth look at Somalia's fintech landscape, an assessment of the regulatory environment, and an evaluation of fintech's economic impact.

The BGS forum has become an essential platform for discussing business challenges and opportunities, highlighting Somalia's commitment to building a dynamic and inclusive economic future through technological advancement.
