Pakistan army chief meets Somali defence minister to deepen security ties

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 6 – Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, met Somali Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi on Thursday to discuss expanding bilateral defence cooperation and regional security, the Pakistani military said.

Fiqi, who is leading a Somali delegation on an official visit, held talks with Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to a statement from the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, regional security developments and ways to strengthen defence cooperation, with a particular focus on enhancing military-to-military relations and capacity-building efforts to address shared security challenges.

Fiqi thanked Pakistan for what he described as its continued support for Somalia and praised the professionalism of the Pakistani armed forces in promoting regional peace and stability, the statement said.

Munir reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to supporting Somalia in strengthening its security institutions and promoting long-term peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, according to the military statement.
