Somalia parliament asked to give green light to minister-nominees

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has asked the National Assembly to give the nod to the new cabinet unveiled by PM Mohamed Hussein Roble on Monday night, 19th October.

In a statement, Farmajo praised Roble for the formation of a capable Government that can work on the implementation of national priorities, including elections, security, and the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The president urged the Cabinet that awaits parliament approval to honestly reflect the aspirations of the people at this critical time in Somalia, a country beset by decades of conflict and long political crisis.

“The President called on the Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives to approve the government of Prime Minister Roble, in order to expedite the important tasks ahead and to deliver the country to a fair and timely election,” read the statement in part.

The new 27-member cabinet which is made up of over 50% reinstated ministers from the previous cabinet ousted by parliament last July 25 is expected to be presented to the house for approval soon, pers sources.

Among the ministers are Finance and Foreign Ministers, Abdirahman Bayle, and Ahmed Isse Awad respectively who retained their posts. The government has a narrow deadline to hold parliamentary and presidential elections in 3 months.
