Somalia: ​Presidential Candidates deliver campaign speeches ahead of the poll

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Eight Presidential Candidates vying for the presidency began delivering campaign speeches at the Parliament in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

Each candidate competing for the country's top seat will jointly address the Lower and Upper Houses about their campaign's agenda for the coming four years and their political background ahead of the polls on February 8.

The caretaker President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his predecessor Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed are among the candidates scheduled to deliver their speeches today at the Parliament Hall in Mogadishu.

It will continue until next Sunday, according the Presidential Election Committee (PEC) tasked with overseeing election of the new President of the Horn of African nation.

Somalia’s newly inaugurated Federal Parliament comprising of 275 lower house seats and 54-member senate will vote for new Somali President in a secret ballot in Mogadishu next Wednesday, February 8.

The presidential election has been delayed for five times to February 8, after missing deadlines to complete the parliamentary elections in the regional states.
