Somalia: Puntland to Prosecute Politicians, Officers Accused of Undermining Security

GAROWE, Somalia – Puntland's Council of Ministers has decided to refer politicians, military officers and other individuals accused of undermining the region's security and state institutions to the justice system, according to an official statement released after a cabinet meeting.

The decision was announced in a communiqué read by Puntland's Deputy Minister of Information following a cabinet session chaired by President Said Abdullahi Deni.

The cabinet also praised recent security operations carried out by the Puntland Defense Forces in Bosaso and Galkayo. The Puntland government said the operations had foiled what it described as a plot by the Federal Government to create security instability. The Federal Government has not publicly responded to the allegation.

The Cabinet instructed security agencies to prohibit the movement of military vehicles and armed personnel not officially affiliated with Puntland's security institutions within the region. It said the measure is intended to strengthen law and order, reinforce security, and prevent unauthorized armed activity across Puntland.

The statement added that judicial authorities would be tasked with pursuing legal action against those identified, while security agencies were instructed to continue enforcing measures aimed at protecting Puntland's security and state institutions.

The cabinet said the decisions form part of broader efforts to safeguard Puntland's stability and constitutional order.
