MOGADISHU (GO) - A group of Somali opposition politicians has launched a political meeting in Mogadishu, sources confirmed to Garowe Online. The closed-door talks, which began on Friday, are expected to last three days and will focus on the country’s electoral process and the current political climate.

According to reliable sources, the meeting centers on formulating a response to the federal government’s proposed electoral model—one that opposition figures argue lacks national consensus and undermines inclusive political dialogue.

Participants are expected to issue a joint communiqué outlining their stance on the direction of the country and proposing alternative pathways for resolving Somalia’s growing political tensions.

Sources also indicate that during the conference, the opposition delegation plans to meet with members of the international community based in Mogadishu. These discussions are anticipated to focus on the role of international partners in supporting a credible and inclusive electoral process.

The opposition has repeatedly criticized the federal government’s approach to elections, accusing it of engaging in unconstitutional interference with Somalia’s provisional constitution and exerting political pressure on regional administrations seen as politically independent from Villa Somalia.

Garowe Online will continue monitoring developments from the opposition talks in Mogadishu and provide updates as more information becomes available.
