Somalia: Top General Accuses Turkey of Role in Assassination Attempt

DOLOW, Somalia — Former Somali Custodial Corps chief General Mahad Abdirahman Aden, widely known as Taliye Shub, has accused Türkiye of playing a role in an alleged attempt to kill him after two missiles struck his residence in the southwestern town of Doolow.

Shub said he was asleep when the attack took place and that the missiles hit the part of the house where he was staying. The explosions caused significant damage to the building and forced him and others inside to flee, he said.

He said he suffered minor injuries in the attack, while a woman was killed and several others were wounded. The injured were taken to Doolow hospital for treatment, according to Shub.

Shub said he believed the attack was carried out by a Turkish aircraft, claiming that he saw the aircraft around the time of the strike. He also said he had information that led him to suspect that the operation was intended to target him.

The former security chief further alleged that information about his whereabouts had been passed to those behind the attack. He singled out a man he identified as his former driver, saying he had previously suspected him of suspicious activities and that the man was at the residence when the strike occurred.

Shub also accused several senior Somali political and security figures of involvement, including House Speaker Abdirahman Mohamed Nur Jama, National Intelligence and Security Agency chief Mahad Mohamed Salad and former South West state president Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe.

He provided allegations but no publicly verifiable evidence linking the officials to the attack, and the claims could not be independently confirmed.

The Somali federal government has previously rejected claims that the incident was caused by an airstrike. It said preliminary information indicated that explosives at the site may have caused the blasts and pledged to investigate the incident and establish who was responsible.

Türkiye has not publicly acknowledged responsibility for the attack. The circumstances surrounding the Doolow incident, including the cause of the explosions and who was behind them, remain disputed.
