BOSASO, Somalia - For the second time this month, the US Africa Command has confirmed airstrikes in the Cal-Miskaad mountains within the state of Puntland, highlighting its commitment to help Somalia in fighting terrorism.

In a statement on Monday, the Command said it conducted an airstrike against the notorious IS-Somalia militants, who have been infiltrating the state after failing to tackle Al-Shabaab influence in southern regions.

Sunday's airstrike left two militants dead but their identity was not immediately revealed. Further, the Command acknowledges that no civilian was harmed in the operation given that due diligence was adequately done.

"U.S. Africa Command will continue to assess the results of this operation and provide additional information as appropriate. Specific details about units and assets will not be released to ensure continued operations security," read the statement.

"Degrading ISIS and other terrorist organizations' ability to plot and conduct attacks that threaten the U.S. homeland, our partners, and civilians remains central to U.S. Africa Command's mission."

Early this month, President Donald Trump confirmed that he was aware of operations within Puntland, further announcing the death of an ISIS 'planner' who was responsible for the coordination of the group’s activities in Puntland.

The US Africa Command is closely working with Puntland Security forces to secure most parts of the region that have been held by the group. Puntland is the most stable state in Somalia and boasts highly trained regional forces.
