Somalia President in Puntland ahead of key meeting on vision 2016

GAROWE, Somalia. April 28, 2015 (Garowe Online)-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Somalia’s Northeastern state of Puntland a day ahead of key conference on the country’s framework for action on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, cabinet ministers, parliamentarians and cheering crowds welcomed Mohamud at Garowe airport, with a division from Puntland Defence Forces (PDFs) staging honor guard.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Puntland leader at the State House in the capital , Garowe, Somalia President praised the northeastern state for its overt offensives against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants in the rugged terrain of Galgala.

While once again reiterating support for the Saudi-led coalition making strikes against Houthi position in Yemen, Mohamud pledged that his government would dispatch ships and planes for the evacuation of Somalis caught in the Arab country’s deadliest conflict in recent years.

Puntland President on his side indicated that Somalia President will join Federal State members in discussing the framework for action, vision 2016 on Wednesday.

Jubaland’s Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) and Southwest state administration leader Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adam are also expected to land in Garowe in the coming hours for the conference on vision 2016.

Sources within Puntland Government tell Garowe Online that the ongoing state building efforts in central Somalia will be high on agenda during the two-day stay of Somalia President in Garowe.
