Somalia: Puntland President names new Police Chief

GAROWE, Somalia, August 7, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The President of Somalia’s Puntland Government Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has fired Police Force Commander-In-Chief Mohamed Saed Jaqanaf, replacing him with new successor on Friday, Garowe Online reports.

Abdirizak Mohamud Yusuf (Afgadud) has been assigned to the post according to a presidential decree.

Afgadud previously held various posts in security apparatuses under the incumbency of former President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed.

He is bracing up for new challenges including tackling sporadic insurgency in the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso.

Puntland Defence Forces (PDFs) have been battling Al Shabaab militants in the rugged terrain of Galgala and on battlegrounds along Golis Mountain Ranges since mid-2010.
