Somalia: UNFPA seeks to address vulnerability in GBV in Puntland

GAROWE, Somalia, December 8, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking to address the vulnerability of Somali women in gender-based violence in the northeastern state of Puntland, Garowe Online reports.

Under the auspices of UNFPA, local network ‘YPEER’ held a workshop on gender orientation for 50 students representing universities and secondary schools on Tuesday in Puntland capital, Garowe.

Puntland government officials who looked to the key workshop, praised UNFPA and its partners for staging awareness and sticking to reproductive rights.

Participants were educated on sexual violence, and addressed on the innovative policies of sexual and reproductive health.

The workshop has been aimed at setting up anti Gender Based Violence clubs at higher education institutions, UNFPA’s Kamal Dahir and Mohamed Shiine of YPEER said.
