The fight occurred at Hamiro gab, approximately 30 km away from Bulo Burde district in Hiiraan region, which is controlled by Somali troops and Djibouti troops.

Djibouti troops are serving under the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) which helps the western-backed Somali government in its fight against Al shabaab.

Somali military officials in the area said the combat flared up when Al Shabaab fighters assaulted a military convoy heading to Jalalaqsi district.

The fighting has raged on for several hours as both sides exchanged heavy gunfire which caused the death of one Somali soldier, according to the military sources.

The Somali government troops have managed to ward off the attack and pushed the militants back during the battle.

Al-Shabaab frequently launches attacks on Somali security forces, government officials and AMISOM troops in an effort to topple the government and impose its own brand of laws in Somalia.
