GAROWE, Somalia - The UK-based Daily Mail has reported that a senior leader of ISIS was killed in an airstrike in Somalia last week. The leader, identified as Ahmed Maeleminine, was reportedly responsible for planning and orchestrating terrorist activities aimed at carrying out attacks in Western countries.

Maeleminine, a senior member of ISIS, was believed to have been overseeing the recruitment, training, and coordination of foreign fighters for the group. He was also responsible for directing attacks and operations outside of Somalia, including in Western nations.

His role involved planning global terror operations, with a particular focus on carrying out jihadist attacks in multiple countries.

Sebastian Gorka, a deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism in the Trump administration confirmed that Maeleminine was involved in plotting terrorist attacks that targeted civilians worldwide.

“This individual was crucial in organizing and coordinating attacks, training jihadi groups, and then sending them back to the West to carry out their violent acts,” Gorka stated.

In addition to this airstrike, the U.S.  conducted airstrikes in the Calmiskaad mountains of the Bari region in Somalia, resulting in the death of foreign fighters aligned with ISIS. Furthermore, Puntland’s defense forces reported killing several foreign militants on the front lines of ongoing military operations in the region.

The airstrikes form part of a broader international effort to counter the global threat of ISIS and other terrorist organizations, with continued military operations aimed at dismantling their networks in the Horn of Africa.
