Somalia: 6 people killed in AMISOM shelling in Lower Shabelle

QORYOLEY, Somalia- Six people were reported killed after the African Union Peacekeeping forces in Somalia (AMISOM) struck a truck carrying civilians in Qoryoley district in Lower Shabelle region, Garowe Online reports.

According to residents, the vehicle was hit by a RPG fired by the AMISOM forces at base-2 area, located 5 km west of Qoryoley town. The vehicle was transporting loads of vegetables from Farhane area destined to Baido town, at the time of the attack by AMSIOM, added the resident.

The attack resulted in the death of 5 men and a woman who were onboard, however, AMISOM officials did not comment on the tragic attack against the civilians.

In a similar incident occurred last week, AMISOM armored vehicle were reported to hit and kill a woman at km-4 area in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

The incident prompted the AMISOM to launch investigation into the killing of a woman by its armored vehicle.   

Somalia’s Attorney General, Ahmed Ali Dahir has lamented the killing of innocent civilian and stated that the Somali government-term ended in September 10- will hold AMISOM accountable for the civilians losses.    

AMISOM forces were deployed to Somalia to back the weak Somali Federal government in Mogadishu and push out Al Qaida-linked Al Shabaab group in central and southern Somalia, who are aiming to overthrow the Somali Federal government.
