Somalia: Abshir Bukhari elected 1st deputy Speaker of Somalia's Senate

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Abshir Bukhari was elected as the new first deputy Speaker of the Upper House chamber of Federal parliament in a secret ballot in Mogadishu on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Mr Bushari received 30 votes to win the seat after defeating his rival contender Abdi Ahmed Dhuhlow, who came second during the 3rd round of the election, according to polls result.

Seven Candidates have contested for the 1st deputy Speaker of Somalia’s Senate, but 3 candidates advanced to the second round of voting, where eventually Bukhari and Dhuhlow progressed to the third round after receiving majority votes in the second round.

However, voting for the second Deputy Speaker of Senate has started, with 52 senators attending the session casting their votes among the candidates competing for the post.
