Somalia: Al Shabaab kills another Govt official in Mogadishu, second in 24 hours

MOGADISHU, Somalia Nov 12, 2014 (Garowe Online)-Al Shabaab gunmen Wednesday gunned down the deputy commissioner of Mogadishu’s Heliwaa district, making the second government official to be killed within 24 hours, Garowe Online reports.

Attackers in a car killed late Yusuf Hilaal in drive-by shooting in Wadajir district according to security officials.

A security escort and female civilian bystander also died in the broad day light gun attack.

Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group has immediately claimed credit for the assassination on its news site.

On Tuesday afternoon, a security commander working at Adan Adde International airport Mohamud Abdi Adow (Dhabaray) was targeted in similar attack near KM4 intersection.

Long serving Federal Member of Parliament Mohamed Omar Dalha escaped unhurt from pre-planned gun attack on his car enroute to parliament building on Tuesday morning.

Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers removed militants from a string of strategic towns in southern and central Somalia.
