Somalia: Allied forces kill more than 100 militants in Southern Somalia

AFMADOW, Somalia- More than 100 militants of Al Shabaab group were reported killed by Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) serving with the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Afmadhow district in Lower Juba, Garowe Online reports.

Earlier, Al Shabaab fighters carried out raids against pro-govt forces in Afmadhow town before being repulsed by Somali troops and allied KDF forces.

Reports indicated that heavy clashes have erupted and lasted for several hours between the sides, which resulted in the destruction of battle wagons belongings to Al Shabaab and deaths of many militants.

However, this comes after a week when the Somalia government troops attacked the militants at their base in Anole village in Lower Jubba and killed many fighters.

On the other hand, KDF fighter jets on Friday have conducted air strikes against Al Shabaab base in Ali Hared base after the militants staged raids on the Somali army bases situated about 20 km from Juungal town.

However, Al Qaida linked Al Shabaab group has intensified its attacks against Somali troops and allied forces in Southern Somalia, in a bid to overthrow the weak UN-backed Somali government in Mogadishu.
